You've seen Ford Focus RS. You might have heard of the new Honda Civic Type R. Volkswagen Golf R has surely been around. But Subaru WRX STI has returned refreshed for 2018, and it looks to give each a run for its proverbial money. With accolades like "everyone’s favorite stock rally car" and "the epitome of pro handling on almost any road" from the eponymous product quality evaluation expert, that there'll be plenty to look forward to seems an understatement. To wit:
- An upgraded 305-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine coupling with a stiffer suspension and standard all-wheel drive to kick the ride into high gear. You'll even be able to keep an eye on drive metrics on demand thanks to a 3.5-inch gauge display.
- The sturdy ride afforded by 19-inch wheels, reined in by the eager stopping power of Brembo brakes and lit brightly around corners by steering-responsive LED headlights.
- Drive-time comfort in the form of a better-insulated interior complete with high-quality, ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seating, with Recaro seats, otherwise optional, coming standard in 2018 WRX STI Limited. That's not to mention the cabin-customizing chops of dual-zone automatic climate control, a driver’s seat that adjusts up to six ways, and a leather-appointed shifter.
- All the tech accouterments of a driver-centric cockpit, from a 7-inch STARLINK Multimedia Plus infotainment system dovetailing a six-speaker sound system with Bluetooth streaming tech to HD and satellite radio, Pandora, iHeart Radio, and Aha listening options.
- Standard brackets that allow installation of an optional roof rack, transforming your Subaru sports car into a world-class traveler.
- STI badging, a redesigned front bumper, and low-mounted grille to look the iconic Subaru WRX STI part.
So, you ask, what's up with that new Subaru WRX STI Type RA limited edition, coming around in early 2018? After all, the Nurburgring circuit clocked it at a record-setting 6 minutes, 57.5 seconds. Plus, you've probably heard tell of a 2020 Subaru WRX and WRX STI redesign. The former's a done deal – you'll have to keep an eye out for it – but the latter's mere rumor right now. At any rate, exciting times are coming for Subaru.
But that doesn't mean you have to wait to see a few for yourself. Thrills are already right around the corner here at our Loveland, CO Subaru dealership. Stop by and visit, and we'll set you up behind the wheel of a new Subaru WRX.
